Solution

Your QBDT might even crash when the server computer fails to switch to the multi-user mode. The procedure to fix the multi-user mode issues in the software is described below-

Method- Fix and recreate the Network Descriptor file before scanning it in the DBSM

The network descriptor (.nd) file of QuickBooks comprises the info about the data source and the path to the systems that connect in the network. If this file gets damaged due to a virus attack or data corruption on your system, the Database Server Manager fails to start or crashes when you try switching to multi-user mode. You’ll have to recreate the Network Descriptor and register it using the DBSM to ensure it doesn’t cause any problems when you share the data file on the network. You can simply do it by renaming the .nd file as shown in the following steps-

  • Launch the file explorer using the folder icon in the taskbar.
  • Go to the QuickBooks folder in the C: drive of your system and search for the network descriptor file inside the folder.
  • Right-click the corrupt .nd file and select the Rename option in the list.
  • Type ‘.old’ as an extension to the file and make sure the file name is unchanged.

After you rename the Network Descriptor file, you must scan it in the DBSM to ensure it gets registered on the network and QuickBooks doesn’t face problems switching to the multi-user mode. Use the steps below-

  • Save the Network Descriptor file with the new name and launch the Database Server Manager.
  • Approach the Scan Folders tab and single-click the Browse option located below it.
  • Select the QB folder where you renamed the .nd file and tap the Start Scan option.
  • Wait until the scan is complete and reopen QuickBooks to share the data file.
